The close of 2020 ends three consecutive years of being President of Granite Mountain Riders, a position I have held for five of the last seven years.  It has been an honor to serve on the Board of Directors.  In the past, we have had busy, active years at GMR.  Every month a meeting with a potluck, an informative guest speaker or demonstration by experienced equine leaders.  We sponsored clinics for our members, formed a drill team, rode in parades, and made donations to local equine causes.

At the beginning of 2020, in usual fashion, the Board of Directors set up speakers, demos, and special events for the whole year.  As we all know, COVID-19 slipped in and it felt as if the world turned upside down.  We cancelled meetings, speakers, clinics, and events hoping to be able to reschedule all of that later in the year.  That did not go exactly as planned, but with the energy of our amazing members, we managed several monthly rides, a weekend camping trip, a few outdoor meetings, and some demonstrations.  We also had a Play Day and Obstacle Course practice.  Through the work of our Board, we arranged once a week open riding at the Chino Valley Equestrian Park arena.  Even while dealing with restrictions, it has been a blessing to be able to connect with friends not otherwise seen as often.

I do not think anyone could find a better group of women who share a common interest and enjoy life.  In the infamous “big picture,” where we do not know what a day will bring – we have old and new friends and the joy of sharing together something we love.  Thank you GMR!  On behalf of the Board of Directors, we wish you all a happy and healthy New Year.
